The Happy Wench
The Happy Wench is a medium cog that was once the property of Percival Markworth, Baronet, late of Seavering in the Baronies. He was deprived of his property (and his life!) after he lost a match in the arena to Potenzia DuBarone, a roguish adventure and skilled illusionist. Potenzia in turn, sold it to his adventuring companion, Zoltan.
Zoltan and his first mate, a large man who goes by the name of Gaff, sail the vessel on regular runs to the South Isles, where they trade with his brother, Ermand, who is harvesting Tordi Trees on Safari Island.
1. The Main Deck
The Happy Wench is a single-masted Cog. In between the main mast and fore castle is the hatch that leads down to the crew deck. Near the hatch is the winch for the anchor. If the ship is at rest, the anchor will be deployed. It takes 5 sailors one full round to weigh the anchor (raise it).
2. Stern Castle
Above the captainĻs quarters (see 5.) is the stern castle. The shipĻs wheel is here. There is always at least one sailor above decks at watch here.
3. Forecastle
The Forecastle lookout has a balista mounted, but it can only be crewed by 2 men, so its rate of fire will be 1/2 normal (one every 4 rounds). The bo' sun and his mate man the balista.
Captain's Cabin
There are two bunks in this room. Each is screened for privacy from the doorway. In the center of the room there is a large table, covered with navigational charts held in place by brass candle sticks and a large book (captain's log). Near each bunk there is a large, locked chest. At the stern, there is a trap door in the floor. The trap door leads to the captain's storage
Crew Deck
There are berths (bunks) for 15 in this large low ceilinged cabin. It is difficult for a tall man to stand upright in this chamber. Two large, locked chests at the bow hold short bows and quivers, and hand axes. There is a rack with javelins against the wall at the bow. The bo' sun and the captain have the keys to the weapons lockers.
Captain's Hold
This room is only accessible from the captain's cabin above, and is the personal storage area for the captain.
Cargo Hold
The Wench can carry 40 tons of cargo fully loaded. However, she makes her best speed with 20-25 tons of cargo. She is difficult to sail empty, as she requires ballast of some sort.
